We assess rental properties and their suitability for pets, a four-clause benchmark covering fencing, water/food/toileting, outdoor safety and documentation. Landlords get evidence to decide with confidence. Tenants get a report that strengthens their pet application.
Approve pet applications on documented evidence, not a guess about what might go wrong.
Show, don't just tell. A completed assessment attaches to your application as real evidence.
Every property is measured against the same written criteria, informed by the Ministry for Primary Industries' Code of Welfare: Dogs and the Dog Control Act 1996 — the same approach behind familiar rental standards, applied here specifically to pet suitability.
The assessor checks boundary height and condition, gaps or gaps-in-waiting, and gate latches — confirming the property offers a secure, confined space where a dog can be kept under control without risk of injury or escape.
The assessor checks that the property allows for reliable access to clean water and a suitable spot for feeding, plus a toileting area kept separate from where the animal eats and rests — in line with the Code of Welfare's requirements for water, food and sanitation.
The assessor checks for toxic plants and substances, escape routes under decks or fences, and whether adequate shade and shelter are available for the animal.
The assessor compiles a dated photographic record and written report for the tenancy file, noting the dog's registration and microchip status.
